nullcromancer.com is a personal weblog run by nullcromancer ("I"). This page says what the site keeps about you and why.
If you only read
Nothing. Reading the site sets no cookies and creates no profile. I count visits to each post as an anonymous total. There are no advertising or analytics trackers.
If you make an account
I keep:
- your user name, display name and email address,
- your password, stored only as a salted hash (I cannot read it),
- a sign-in cookie (
nc.auth) that keeps you signed in and is removed when you sign out, - what you do while signed in: your reactions, and any comments you post.
I use this to let you react, comment and chat, to keep spam out, and to email you about your account (confirming your address, resetting a password). Your display name appears next to your reactions and comments. Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Chat
The page chat is live only. Messages are not saved; they disappear when everyone leaves the page.
Contact form and newsletter
A message sent through the contact form, and its email address, goes to my inbox and is kept until I delete it. If you join the newsletter I keep your email address and the date you confirmed it, and use it only to send the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Who else sees it
The site and its database run on a hosted server in the United States. Email is sent through the site's own mail server. I do not sell or share your data, and I only disclose it if the law requires.
Your choices
Signed in, open Your account to change your name or password, download everything I hold about you, or delete your account. Deleting removes your account, your reactions and your comments, and your newsletter address. This cannot be undone. You can also ask me by email through the contact page. To leave the newsletter, use the link in any issue.
